Wellbeing

Kuyam, a place to rest together.

Our approach to wellbeing stems from the Chumash word “kuyam,” meaning a place to rest together, and the root of our valley’s name.

Your escape to Cuyama Buckhorn is an opportunity to reconnect with nature, yourself, and the people you came with. Let the valley’s energy inspire you to roll out your yoga mat on the lawn, break a sweat in the barrel sauna before plunging into the pool, or hike into the pristine wilderness. Come back to stillness and indulge in a steaming cup of hand-crafted tea, tune into the concert of birdsong and crickets that swells with the sunset, or get lost in the cosmos under some of California’s darkest skies.

Break a Sweat

Whether you’re scrambling up rock formations with Backcountry Ramblers club, lacing up your boots to explore the plentiful local trails, or clipping in for a day of mountain or road cycling, find your favorite view of the Cuyama Valley from the trail.

Tap into all your senses; take note of what you can see, smell, hear, and even taste while out on trail. In The Hidden Valley of Enchantment, nature is at your doorstep and waiting for you to engage with your surroundings.

“Drop into Cuyama Valley on Route 33 and something happens. The road narrows, the mountains close in, and whatever you packed alongside your luggage — the calendar, the noise, the low hum of the city — begins to loosen.”

Meditation

Slow down and settle into the rhythm of the desert. Find a quiet corner to journal, tune into the chorus of birdsong, or slip on your headphones for a guided meditation. Every guest is treated to a 7-day trial to NuCalm, a neuroacoustic practice for managing stress, promoting deeper sleep, recharging your energy, and increasing focus.

The Tea Room

Tucked behind wooden doors off the hotel lobby, our Tea Room is a hidden sanctuary where hotel guests are invited to make themselves at home. Start the day with an energizing black tea, or unwind with an herbal infusion to soothe the body and mind as you ease into the evening.

Take a deep breath and let go of the day. Pull up a seat on The Vista and watch the sun slip behind the mountains as the valley sky turns a wash of pink and gold.

Barrel Sauna & Jacuzzi

Whether you’re warming up on a crisp morning or returning after a day of exploration, the barrel sauna and jacuzzi are our favorite way to soothe tired muscles and let tension melt away. Dip into the pool between heat treatments for some intense contrast therapy that will wake up every nerve.

Open to all hotel guests daily from 8am to 10pm.

Stargazing

The best show starts once the sun goes down. Lean into an Adirondack chair, look up to the cosmos, and connect the dots above. To make the experience extra memorable, attend a guided star tour with our local guide.
